Bicycles
Bicycling is a widespread and beloved sport that is adaptable
to almost every climate and environment. It is both a frequent mode
of transportation in urban areas, as well as in rural communities, and
is a regular recreational activity for both children and adults alike.
Bicycles are inexpensive to buy and maintain, although new technological
advances have provided athletes and enthusiasts with better options
at a steeper price.
Today bicycles are sold to both professionals and amateurs alike, and
cycling has become a widespread and popular competition sport. Athletes
like Lance Armstrong have ignited international fervor over events such
as the Tour de France, one of the largest and most prestigious cycling
events in the world. More and more people are signing up for local and
regional biking competitions, and training on their free time for fierce
match ups.
Bicycling has also, for decades, been a defining part of American youth.
Most children receive their first bicycle, and begin riding at a young
age. This provides ample exercise, as well as cost effective transportation
for kids who are under the legal driving age. Moreover, bicycling is
a great way to solidify friendships and family bonds through shared
experiences.
